Professional Nature Guide Course

Drum Beat Academy has been training Culture & Nature Guides for more than 15 years. We have a proven track record of success within the industry. We are fully Accredited with CATHSSETA.

As from next year (2015) Drum Beat Academy is offering students the opportunity to become a qualified Nature Guide and train in a Big 5 Nature Reserve.

This comprehensive, all inclusive 9 month course is for the nature enthusiast wanting to learn more about our natural environment or wanting to become a qualified nature guide.

This course is structured to offer theoretical and practical training, based on the curriculum set by CATHSSETA.

Your training will be based in the Phalaborwa area, but the learner will also visit other Reserves and Game Farms to give them exposure to a larger biodiversity of ecosystems, wildlife and geological features. The practical exposure will ensure the learners can experience the theoretical modules in the bush.

3.     Biomes of Southern Africa

4.     Geology

5.     Climatology

6.     Ecology

7.     Astronomy

8.     Taxonomy

9.     Animal Behaviour

10.   Plant and Animal Studies

11.   Survival and Navigation

12.   The Game Drive Vehicle

13.    View Potentially Dangerous Animals

14.    Use of a Rifle

15.    Firearm Safety

16.    First Aid Procedures

Entrance requirements:

Two South African Languages on NQF Level 4

Maths Literacy Matric

Please note: for job placements each candidate must have a valid driver’s license and PRDP (Professional Driving Permit)

Duration:

12 Months (5 Months theory and practical, 1 month revision and preparation for final assessment, 6 months’ workplace experience)

Assessment:

Theory: exam and assignments

Practical: behavioural observation

Course Fee:

R96 500.00

Payment terms:

50% deposit – R48 250

Balance payable over 6 moths – R8041 per month

Included in the course fee:

·        Tented accommodation

·        3 meals per day

·        Registration, examination, assessment and moderation fees

·        Assignment Materials, bush walks/drives and visits to other Nature Reserves

·        Transport to these reserves

·        Assistance with job placement for practical experience

Certification:

After completion of this course you will be issues with a CATHSSETA Certificate:
